I know many of us have heard the late great Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology). Have you ever stopped to listen to the lyrics. It's almost as if he's living and discussing the things that are prevalent to us at this very moment. This song was released in 1971, 40 yrs. ago. You would want to think that the things he refer to couldn't possibly take place in this day and age. Here are the lyrics and the video below. Let the lyrics below marinate. Then make a call on whether or not you feel as if things are changing for the better. For me it gives me an understanding of why things such as cancer have taken a rocket to the roof, along with many other side effects of our industrializing the planet.
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Where did all the blue sky go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north, east, south, and sea
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of
mercury
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Radiation in the ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can you stand?
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
My sweet Lord
